Your primary responsibilities in this hybrid role will include: Ownership of the Design System and Visual design of email campaigns.
The expected workload ratio will be approximately 60%-40%.
Design System tasks
An agency with a relatively low UX maturity has developed the design files and design system so far. As a result, its maturity is relatively low—more of a repository of components than a true design system. We are looking for someone with extensive design system experience who can make a significant impact. Your tasks include:
- Taking ownership of the design system and the processes surrounding it.
- Taking ownership of the design files from the external agency in Figma, reviewing what is usable/reusable.
- Laying the foundation for a high-quality Design System, with the right balance between rigidity and flexibility.
- Developing rules and workflows for adding and improving components.
- Quality control.
UI/Visual design tasks
- UI/Visual design of e-commerce email campaigns.
- Variants for A/B testing.
UX team tasks
The UX competency is still relatively new. Therefore, it is important that in everything you do, you actively contribute to the shared goals:
- Building a strong UX team together.
- Elevating the UX maturity of the organisation.
- UX advocacy.
Within this subsidiary organisation, which is dedicated to working on the e-commerce platforms, there are 80-100 employees. They operate from their own hub in Amsterdam. Their way of working is agile, and this part of the organisation has adopted it relatively recently. Until recently, the design of these e-commerce platforms was managed by an external agency with low UX maturity. They are in the process of building an in-house UX team.
When you are starting here, this is how the UX team will look like:
- 2 UX/UI Designers, working in a decentralised way; each works dedicatedly for one or two development/scrum teams.
- 2 UX Researchers, working in a centralised way; they conduct both quantitative and qualitative research for all teams.
- In this hybrid Design System and UI/Visual design role, you will also work in a centralised manner; supporting all teams.
Within the office, you can sit wherever you like, though the UX professionals often choose to sit together.
The UX Manager who is building the team, and to whom you will report, is based in the United Kingdom. He stays in Amsterdam for a week every few weeks. Therefore, we are looking for self-starting and well-organised professionals.
The original design system was developed by an external agency with a relatively low UX maturity. They also owned all the design files. From what we understand, it’s more of a repository of components than a modern multi-user design system, and the technical setup of the components in Figma may be questionable. Your task is to take ownership, evaluate the old components for usability/reusability, and ensure that a new, rigid yet flexible design system is built that fully utilises Figma's latest capabilities.
In this hybrid role, in addition to your centralised role as Design System Lead, you also have another centralised responsibility. In this role, you are also responsible for the visual design of the email campaigns for theirproducts. This means you have the opportunity to make a significant impact within the organisation.
Because the UX manager wants to make a big leap into the future, and because he trusts the vision of his employees, all the members of the UX team are allocated one day per week to work on the initiatives that they themselves consider to be important to move forward.
- You can start nov 1st or sooner
- You’re able to travel to the office in Amsterdam each Tuesday and Thursday
- You are eligible to work in the Netherlands
- You have experience in setting up, improving, and expanding a multi-user Design System in Figma
- You have Experience in designing and managing the workflows around it
- You have experience in visual design for emails or landing pages for marketing purposes
